E.P.D.U. – European Phone Drone Union – A 2.792km Long Walk.

Do we have a message / cause? YES, we think so!

Let me ask you: “Have you ever thought about your life, the future and everything else?” Sounds like a Douglas Adams novel, but seriously, ask yourself: “What happens when you become ‘unfit for work’ right now, unexpected and in the worst possible moment in your life or career?”

When you are young, your life is most likely a very long party, you have fun and don’t really think about your future, retirement, sickness and even death. You work on the phone, maybe in one of these call centres in Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, Prague …. wherever. You earn good money and you really have fun working all over the world. Everything is cool for you and there is nothing to worry about. Really? Unfortunately, there are more things to worry about you might not realize today.

Just ask yourself a few questions

– What would happen if you get sick today and you can’t work anymore?
– Do you have a plan what you gonna do?
– Can you go to your home country? Where is your home country? Does your home country still exist?
– Maybe you worked in several countries for different companies, how are you gonna prove all your achievements?
– How can would you consolidate all your achievements which are spread all over Europe?
– How you gonna survive until all paperwork is done and finally fixed?
– Do you know your achievements?
– …

tl;dr – Let me ask you:
“What will happen when you get sick tomorrow and you can’t work anymore?”

Something everywhere and not enough somewhere,
Maybe you worked all over Europe and you paid social security and taxes. For example a few years in Ireland, a few years in France, a few years in several other countries and you paid everywhere, but what will happen when you need social support? NOTHING! You have paid everywhere, but to consolidate your achievements is nearly impossible. It will last months or even years and until all is sorted you will have to stay on less than welfare and wait.

There are thousands of “phone drones’ like you which have no real ‘social security’. and you need to avoid this topic because you can barely afford life at the moment. You can’t really ask yourself about sickness or retirement and what would you answer?

Ok, some you might have a plan, but most likely you never thought about and you have no idea.

Unfortunately, there is no European register of social achievements for “phone drones” like you and there is no support to consolidate your achievements. More the opposite. Every country makes his own rules and the procedures are made intentionally complicated so that it’s nearly impossible to get any help.

How do you feel about that? Doesn’t sound right, RIGHT? Maybe we can do something together and build an “E.P.D.U. – European Phone Drone Union”?

E.P.D.U. – European Phone Drone Union

Every business except us “Phone Drones” has a lobby.

We are thinking about protesting against for …

… affordable living space in densely populated areas.
Nowadays companies are normally located in city centres and there is no difference between, Dublin, Barcelona, Amsterdam or wherever…..Shiny newly built offices with air condition, but some of us don’t have even a proper bed, not to dream of a kitchen, a working, clean fridge or even a legal registration.

… better support for ‘travelling phone drones’.
The last twenty-five years Vil worked in several jobs all over Europe, he collected social security numbers like candy and he paid loads of taxes and social security. Now he needs to ‘summarise’ all his achievements to get ONE payment and that’s a real task.

First question: Which Country to collect all? Second question: How to prove everything? Third question: How to survive and have food until then? It’s a real pain in the **** to do all this paperwork and it lasts for weeks even months. More about that -> HERE!

… better legal protection.
When we relocated to Amsterdam, Vil was so screwed by Oracle. They let him die and he had no chance to fight.

… more dog-friendly apartments.
Vil had a very good job, he enjoyed to go to work but he was never able to find a permanent place for us. It’s a big challenge to find affordable, legal housing in Amsterdam and with a dog, it’s even harder, let’s say impossible

… and more (to come).
There is more shit in this world worth thinking about!

Which services could the E.P.D.U. offer?

– A central register of social security achievements.
– Legal advice.
– Support for common legal questions (Contracts, Paperwork, Registration, Licenses, …)
– Emergency support (Health, Accommodation, Pet-Nanny, …)
– …

A Long Walk

We can’t go home, because we have nowhere to go and Vil never asked himself all these questions in the past and now he is ‘not fit for work’ and lost is last job (again). Bottom line we are so fucked, have no place to go and when Vil is a bit better, we will walk to Santiago de Compostela. Yes, we still think about walking, because there is nothing else we can do. We don’t want to spend our life begging on the streets of Amsterdam and Plan-B became Plan-A.

In the beginning, it was just a crazy idea, but now we really think that this will work and maybe it could be the most meaningful thing we’ve ever done. -> While walking creating the E.P.D.U.!

Please let us know what you think about our idea to create an E.P.D.U.?
Thank you for your time.
Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Stichting Jachthaven Zwaansmeerpolder

Nearby to the Camping Zwaansmeerpolder, there is a Yachthafen y0u can have a nice walk and you can see some very nice boats. In Holland, you can ‘drive’ any boat up to fifteen meters long without any driving license. Nice. Smaller boats with a steel hull, in which you could live in permanently, are available from around five to seven thousand Euros. Ok, you can pay way more, but it’s not really needed.

A place for the boat is off-season from October to may is around ten Euro per square meter boat. Means a boat seven by two meters would be fourteen square meters, which equals one hundred forty Euro for six months. That’s a steal.

So where to get five thousand Euros to buy a boat? 🙂

Think positive & Life now: “Tomorrow, today will be yesterday!”

Think positive & Life now:
“Tomorrow, today will be yesterday!”

More than 200 posts removed.
We cleaned up! It’s time for a new start, a new perspective and a new approach.

We deleted all posts on Facebook (forever), Twitter (not yet!) and we also archived more than 200 posts from the main blog. The posts are not completely deleted, but for the moment they are not available to the public. Allrite, we know that nothing once published can’t be deleted and that the internet remembers everything, but you get the point.

We removed these posts because we wouldn’t write them like this anymore, because they don’t reflect our actual state of mind and mood. These posts are still there and a part of our story, but we want to get rid of this sometimes quite negative, depressing, raw or even shocking content and we will re-re-write everything in a more positive way. We are sorry because sometimes emotions took over and we were quite angry and surely unfair and we deeply apologise for that.

Life is wonderful, TODAY!

We learned that life is too short to be wasted on anger, disappointments or just stupid things because life is beautiful and …

‘Tomorrow, today will be yesterday!’

There are so many people only living ‘tomorrow’ ….. when they buy a car, ….. when they go on holidays ….. when they will do something they could do today, but they just dream. They are alive, but they don’t have a real life, they live tomorrows dream.

Are you alive right now? Can you really appreciate ‘the moment’ or are you caught in your daily life with all the ‘I need to do this’ and ‘I can’t do that’?

We don’t complain anymore.

Ok, life is a bitch! We’ve hit rock bottom so many times, we lost everything we’ve ever worked for. Our car, job, house and family. Sometimes it was our own stupidity, some wrong decisions at the right time, sometimes just bad luck or a health issue and most of the times it was just a combination of all of them.

Now we are happy when the day is a good day. A good day is a day without pain or some other ‘complications’. A day who starts with hot coffee, a day with food, shelter and maybe some nice conversations.

Other than that, we don’t need much to be happy anymore.

Feeling Allrite!

Feeling Allrite!

For the moment we live every day as it would be our last and we really enjoy it. We are back at the camping in Uitgeest and we will stay here a little bit longer. We can’t recommend this place enough. The people are mega friendly to us, we stay for a good rate a day and they agreed to extend our stay as long as we need and this was all before Vil write the review on Google Maps.

NICE Thank You Bark.

Back @ The Camping Zwaansmeerpolder

After a very long day and night, we came back to the camping this morning around 04:00. After Vil’s ‘unsuccessful’ procedure we stayed all day in town and tried to find a place to stay, but we decided not to spend all our money on a Hotel and so we took the last Sprinter to Uitgeest and walked slowly to the camping place.

The nice lady in the harbour office arranged a very nice, quiet, shady place for us and we can stay there a few days longer, have a relaxed time, gather some strength until ‘procedure number two’ will be performed in the hospital.

Waiting, thinking …. realising!

The day before yesterday we stayed up all day and went slowly to the camping place because we couldn’t afford any place in town.

Indy: “Good evening my friend. How are you and how did you sleep tonight?”

It’s 18:00 and Vil slept all day, now he is barely awake, sweat wet and looks pretty shit.

Vil: “Hmmm,…. I feel ok. There is no pain or nausea at the moment and let’s hope it will stay like this. You know I feel ok most of the time immediately after wake up, but wait for an hour an I tell you how today will be.”

Vil looks scared and very tired. I can’t even imagine how hard that must be when you don’t know if you end up in the hospital again or have a nice and slow day.

Indy: “Take your medicine and stay easy my friend. Maybe a little food?”

Vil opens a pack of milk boils hot water and prepares a coffee. The sun is still shining, it’s not raining and the birds making noise, actually a wonderful day.

Vil: “Do you want some cookies?”

Indy: “Cookies?, but not the ones the funny lady cooked for me. I still have the runs from her food. Please promise me never to bring me there again.”

Vil: “I know and I promise you will never need to go there again, but at that time I had no other choice. I thought she was nice and she helped us, but in the end, it turned out that she has absolutely no idea what she is talking about.

I don’t want to go too much in detail because I think that wouldn’t be appropriate, but it really sounds cynic, when someone lectures you while lying in the hospital all the time that you can’t live like this. So she really thinks we choose to live like this?

Anyhow, I feel sorry for her because she didn’t even realize how many problems she has. She is a good person and was nice to you and I appreciate that.”

Indy: “Yes it was ok, but she fed me stuff I never ate before, I got the runs from ….

Nice. More shocking, she promised to help you with a shelter for a few days face to face and then she just sent a text like ‘….. ooooh I am sorry, but I have my own problems, you can’t stay even one night in my place.'”

Vil: “Don’t be ungrateful and forgive her, she has more problems than us. We are somehow free and independent, but she is locked up in her problems. I don’t want to change with her.

You know it was not a good day when I went to the hospital, I felt like shit and I am very sorry, but I had no other choice or do you want to go to an animal shelter next time?”

Indy: “Maybe that’s a better option because there I won’t get the runs, they will take care of me and I won’t get sick.”

Vil: “What’s wrong?”

Indy: “Outch,…… I neeeeed to have a shit again, NOW!”

Indy runs out of the tent and hides behind the bushes, then she makes funny sounds and is not very good.

After a while, she returns.

Indy: “Fuck me! Again the runs. Now I can understand how you feel when you are sick. Can you make me a tea, please?”

Vil: “At first let me check you out. Maybe you have ticks or little animals.”

Vil checks Indy’s coat and he finds several big and blood filled ticks, some animals and a badly infected paw.

Vil: “Wow you are worse than me. At first, I will remove the ticks, give you the medicine and bandage your paw. Then a tea for both of us. Something hot. What about some hot meat bouillon for you?”

Indy: “Yeah, some of it with my normal dog food, please!”

Vil heats up some water and prepares the tea and the bouillon. Luckily we still have enough gas to heat up some food.

Indy: “That smells nice.”

Vil prepares the soup and the dog food for me, slowly.

Indy: “So what we gonna do now?”

Vil looks at me, get a deep breath and exhales.

Vil: “I do have a new appointment for the next procedure and I hope they won’t screw it up again. We need to wait here for two weeks until everything is healed up and they can perform another procedure on me. It’s nice here and we will stay as long as possible.”

Indy: “So we can’t start our walk?

Vil looks very sad and he replies silently.

Vil: “Yes, we are stuck, but who cares? It’s safe here on the camping and we are good for another few days.”

Indy: “But the people are already looking at us and wondering what’s going on.”

Vil: “Yes, they do. Let’s hope we don’t spoil their holidays.”

[UPDATE] : We’ve just got a few angry replies via Whatsapp to this post and we want to say the following: We are very happy for every help and we say “Thank You”, but if we would have a friend who was just released from hospital, we would offer him shelter, food and support without any question. You don’t know the whole conversation and we don’t want to go in detail, so please understand that we are disappointed.

[Update2] They went to the vet and I removed all parts regarding.

Tomorrow is “The Day”!

If you ever considered a day as very important to you, tomorrow is one of these days for Vil. At around 8:30 he will go to sleep and a few minutes later they will remove the stone and put a stent into somewhere ;). Maybe removing the Evil wich caused him to suffer so much, we hope so. No complaints, but sometimes is was a little bit hard to get up again and again. For nearly twenty five years he was sick on and off. Visited hospitals in more countries some people ever in their life travel to.

He learned to appreciate life and understood that “Tomorrow, today will be yesterday!” So many people say that they will buy a car tomorrow or travel tomorrow or life tomorrow, but they tend to forget that there is also a NOW!

Life NOW. Love NOW!

E.R.C.P. – Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography

The doctors informed that Vil has to wait a few days to recover a bit and then he will get an ECRP. On Thursday this week it’s ‘Operating Time’. They will put a tube in his throat, cut somewhere, remove the stone and place a stent.

“ERCP is a procedure that enables your physician to examine the pancreatic and bile ducts. A bendable, lighted tube (endoscope) about the thickness of your index finger is placed through your mouth and into your stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). In the duodenum a small opening is identified (ampulla) and a small plastic tube (cannula) is passed through the endoscope and into this opening. Dye (contrast material) is injected and X-rays are taken to study the ducts of the pancreas and liver.”
